Training in Chicago
Classes are held on Chicago's West Side at 1449 South Keeler Avenue, Chicago, IL 60623. Instruction is led by Samuel Jones Sr., founder of Sling & Stone Defense-Training. The state-required 16 hours are delivered over two 8-hour days, and four 4-hour sessions may be offered on occasion. The $100 fee covers the full 16 hours of instruction with no hidden class-time add-on fees. Please note: Sling & Stone Defense-Training does not provide fingerprinting or the state background check — the course fee is for the training only, and students handle the Illinois State Police application and background check separately.
Common questions
Do I need a FOID card to take the course? No. Neither the Illinois State Police nor the Act requires a valid FOID card to take the required training — only that, when you apply for the license, you hold a valid FOID or have one in process. What should I bring? Valid identification, any required permits or cards, eye and ear protection, weather-appropriate clothing, and water. Eye and ear protection can be provided case by case — ask ahead of your session. How is scheduling handled? Registration asks for your scheduling preference rather than locking a calendar slot; we confirm the actual date and location with you directly after your registration is received.
